"a ripper" of a wine: Stickleback Red 08

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.com
 Dec 2009

It's listed as being South Australia on the label although it comes from two 'premium' regions (as it were), being Limestone Coast (8%) and Langhorne Creek (92%). It's a blend of Shiraz (61%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) Dolcetto (14%) and Lagrein (5%).

Interesting smelling wine - it's pretty and floral, yet tarry and rasiny with a waft of mint and jammy blackberries and cherries.... It has a big mouthful of cherry flavour and plenty of chewy tannins - which I think is admirable for a wine of this price point - although they are a little bitter. I'd suggest they are onto something with this quirky little blend of grapes. With a steak, and a big glass, it would make for an interesting and satisfying drink. At $12 its a ripper.
